Instead of 27 witnesses in the control of a few, we have thousands of 98-99% accurate witnesses spread out to many in short order. <br /><br />By having many lines of transmission of the copies, we can reconstruct the original better. If just one person copies a document and makes errors, we might never know what the errors were.
